RedBedlam have teamed up with award winning British author Christopher Brookmyre (www.brookmyre.co.uk) to produce a trilogy of FPS games based on Brookmyre’s first venture into writing sci-fi novels.

Christopher Brookmyre has 14 published novels to date all within the crime genre, a number of Chris’s published novels cover aspects of gaming and in particular FPS games.

Christopher recently commented “I’m a first-person-shooter veteran of more than fifteen years, and I have touched upon gaming culture in previous novels such as A Big Boy Did It And Ran Away and Pandaemonium, but I was only scraping the surface. My discussions with RedBedlam inspired me to create a story concept for both the book and the game that explores the evolution of the shooter genre and reflects upon the increasing role gaming has in people’s lives. It also affords me a platform to make lots of arcane, cheap and downright sick jokes. In essence, Bedlam has allowed me to have a crack at creating a Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for the gamer generation.”

The first in the series of Bedlam novels is currently in first draft phase and is slated for release in March 2013. RedBedlam intend to release the first in the series of multi-platform FPS games in Q3 2013.

A website for Bedlam the game is expected to launch shortly, in the meantime we leave you with the teaser copy for the first Bedlam novel.

Heaven is a prison. Hell is a playground.

Would it be your ultimate fantasy to enter the world of a video game?

A realm where you don’t have to go to work or worry about your health; where you can look like a hero or a goddess; where you can fly space-ships, slay dragons, visit any period in history, any realm in fiction, yet all of it feels completely real. A realm where there are no consequences and no responsibilities, to the extent that even if you die, you can just respawn and start again.

Or would it be your worst nightmare?

Trapped in a place where every demon ever conjured by the human mind can be made flesh. Cut off from the real world, unable to see your family or friends ever again. Stuck in an endless state of war and chaos where the pain and fear feels real and from which not even death can offer an escape.

Prison or playground. Heaven or hell.

This is where you find out.

This is white-knuckle action, sprawling adventure, merciless satire and outrageous humour like you’ve never experienced.

This is Christopher Brookmyre over-clocked and hardware-accelerated.

This is Bedlam.

You can pre-order your copy of Bedlam the novel today!

UK-based indie developer RedBedlam has revealed The Missing Ink; a vast, wildly entertaining, yet strangely familiar multi-themed MMORPG in which each player can create, develop and share their own unique virtual world.

It’s a funny old world. Well, actually it’s a funny new world full of old ideas. We’re told that there are only so many stories – Shakespeare says 12, Goethe and Polti say 36 – one thing though is certain. Certain recurring characters, ideas and references have appeared and reappeared in human myths, legend and story-telling culture since such things began.

In the world of The Missing Ink, these stories, legends, fairy tales and adventures have all been brought to life – but something is drastically wrong. Each of the stories are strangely corrupted. The knight in shining armour has gone missing and the damsel in distress is really quite happy with her lot. The star-crossed lovers aren’t interested, the big bad wolf has eaten some very dodgy magic beans and nobody can find the Emperor’s new clothes anywhere.

So it seems a mysterious evil force is taking all of our most beloved stories and ideas and, for some despicable and inconceivable reason, messing them up a treat. Into this world step the players, using their PCs and Macs (tablet version to follow next year), either with a free download or directly in the web browser.

As well as exploring this almost-traditional MMORPG, dungeoneering, questing and, quite literally, setting the world to rights, each player also has their very own sandbox virtual world in which their own imagination runs free and, with the fun and free construction tools provided, can create virtually anything their heart desires. Virtually. D’ya see?

Kerry Fraser-Robinson, RedBedlam’s Managing Director commented, “leave me alone – I’m busy.” Later, he somewhat more constructively added, “Oh for the press release? Right. Let me see. Tell them it’s funny. Ground-breaking. Innovation oozing from every pixel. A showcase for our artistic talent and technical expertise. And it’s free.”

The Missing Ink will run an open Alpha promotion in December 2011 and is expected to make the leap to Beta in early 2012 with a full multi-platform launch currently scheduled for Q3.

The game employs a freemium business model and RedBedlam is currently in negotiation with a number of publishing partners.
