Introducing Roma Victor ® |
|
Redbedlam's sandbox 3D MMORPG Virtual World is set in an historically authentic re-creation of Roman Britain. Developed on a minimal budget and in concert with the evolution of the RedBedlam toolsuite, Roma Victor offers a glimpse at what is possible using the highly automated technologies and solutions designed by RedBedlam since 2001. The game is set in a fully persistent world, meaning that structures built or objects moved, remain in place permanently (unless moved, or destroyed by other players!), allowing players to set up their own communities within their territory, plant crops, establish crafting businesses and socialise with complete freedom of action. The in-game economics model or 'VERM' (Virtual Economic Revenue Model) generates and manages micro payment income streams as an alternate means to charging monthly subscription fees. The world uses its own currency 'Sesterces' which can be purchased with real money or earned in-game and are used to buy goods or services. This approach allows more casual or time-poor players to compete with those who choose to visit the world everyday, thereby ensuring a vibrant community of crafters and creators within the world and an active social engagement amongst players working in teams to achieve goals. Players can join one of two factions: the Romans or the Barbarians. Each have their own unique skills and attributes and vie for control over the territory of South Caledonia (which has been accurately modelled from NASA's SRTM data). Combat is engaged in real time rather than using stacked commands which are a more passive form of interaction. This enables players to incorporate FPS (First Person Shooter) 'Twitch' style gaming skills into their experience providing more of a free-form and less structured feel to the action than is possible with traditional turn based play systems. Roma Victor is a constantly evolving product in which we respond to players' feedback by introducing new features, ensuring loyalty and longevity. It also acts as a proving ground for newly developed technologies or gameplay mechanics. Roma Victor has a subscriber base of over 10,000 accounts sold without a penny having been spent on marketing. RedBedlam has a rolling plan for Roma Victor to enhance combat/ crafting play and bring in more social/ casual gamers which we believe will enlarge the community and revenues significantly. The drive to re-work the art assets and localise the content is also ongoing so as to expand the scale and reach of this unique virtual world. |
